DIY Diva: Coming soon to HGTV

Wanna see something kind of funny and brilliant??

I had a problem to solve regarding some new lights in the hall:  the jaggedy drywall that wasn't covered by the base.  I thought about patching the drywall somehow or adding a thin wooden circle and painting it white to blend in with the ceiling.  Then my mom casually said something like: "you know a margarine lid would almost do the trick".  Well, margarine is gross, so at first I just gagged a little, then I grabbed a honey pail lid and some antique bronze spray paint I already had and gave it a try.  I myself am amazed at the results!

KA-CHOW!

(so now I'm going to call HGTV and we're gonna have a little chat - it's just that brilliant!)

Fish Crackers and Frogs.

A Little Piece of Narnia

I am glad that Lake Superior is freezing cold - even on a hot day in August.  I am glad that it takes a few hours of driving on hilly, twisty roads to get to a beach.  I am glad that there is a fee to park your car in the provincial parks and that there are absolutely no places to grab lunch on a long weekend - a bag of cheese popcorn shared between three vehicles will totally suffice.  I am glad they don't really have Bathtub Island on a map and deliberately omit any mention of it to tourists passing through.

Otherwise, it would be over-run with condos and beach umbrellas and dogs and...well, people. To all who venture there, it is a special secret place, a secret shared by only a choice few.

And we want to keep it that way.

Twelve Years

Since we were married at ages 21 and 22, were students and broke, there was no photographer hired.

These days, it seems to be all about the perfect wedding pictures.
I don't wish we had had a slew of artsy perfectly arranged shots, just one that I would be proud to enlarge and frame.

With that in mind, I agreed to doning my dress again, my girls were over the moon with the idea of helping me get ready for an anniversary dance with their Dad.   The chosen song was
"Open Window" by Sarah Harmer, here are the lyrics:

Love, I see you there
Adrift on the air
Floating by the open window
Ah, the sentiment of love
Reflections that speak of
What can enter when our hearts are open
Here, witnesses appear
And recognize how sacred
Love can be when stated
Shared, shown for all to see
The beauty that can be
When love is cultivated
Well, our love is a sacred thing
Like the mysteries of the night
In the darkness unwavering
And still so strong come the light
Well, our love is an infinite thing
Like the sun's last ray on the sea
As it sets low in the west
And the moon rises.

So, here we are, looking a little more tired then twelve years ago, but still as determined to make our marriage successful.

As usual, we are up to the same old tricks....
